Robots that feed the world

As labour shortages intensify and demand for sustainable food production grows, automation in greenhouses is no longer optional; it’s essential. Four Growers, an American hightech horticulture scale-up, opens an office in the Netherlands as a European base in Zuid-Holland to tackle labour shortages and boost greenhouse productivity.

A strategic move to the heart of Dutch horticulture

Four Growers, a robotics company from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has officially landed in Zuid-Holland. Known for their tomato-harvesting robots, the company has chosen this region, Zoetermeer to be precise, as their long-term European base. After a deployment at Syngenta Tomato Vision in Maasland, they’ve now also deployed a fleet in the Netherlands, registered a Dutch entity, and are setting up operations for R&D, marketing, sales, and service.

Curious about these robots in action? In the video below you can see the autonomous GR-200 robots harvesting tomatoes at Westburg BV. A commercial-scale deployment that shows how quickly AI-driven automation is transforming greenhouse farming from concept to reality.

Why here?

Four Growers’ choice of Zuid-Holland was no coincidence. The region offers a dense network of growers, research centres, and hightech-horticultural innovators. Since 2018, the company has been active in the Dutch ecosystem, participating in ecosystem webinars and Greentech sessions. With support from InnovationQuarter and local partners, Four Growers has now completed its landing, from Chamber of Commerce registration to team formation. Their arrival strengthens Zuid-Holland’s position as Europe’s leading hub for autonomous greenhouse systems and high-tech horticulture innovation.

What’s next? Growth, collaboration, and impact

Their ambition is to become a key player in Europe’s greenhouse automation landscape and help growers scale sustainably and become future proof. To do this, Four Growers is open to exploring partnerships. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Four Growers originates, is one of the most advanced US states in robotisation and automation powered by artificial intelligence.

We believe in a future with fresh, local, sustainable produce and we’re here to help growers make that happen.
