Funding led by World Fund and strategic partners

The €14 million Series A funding was led by World Fund, Europe’s leading climate venture capital firm, with contributions from Project A Ventures, Vsquared Ventures, Andreas Kupke, Schwarz Holding, and InnovationQuarter. The funds will be used to accelerate key hires and commercial expansion, with the goal of making regional flights affordable and zero-emission.

Growing aviation demand and the need for decarbonisation

Aviation demand is projected to more than double by 2040, with over 8 billion passengers expected. This growth highlights the urgent need for sustainable aviation solutions. The regional aviation market offers significant opportunities, with forecasts predicting the global addressable market for regional flights could reach $115 billion by 2035.

Co-founder and ceo of VÆRIDION, Ivor van Dartel, said:

““Our new funding will significantly accelerate development efforts, paving the way for certification-conforming prototype flights to take off in 2027, followed by a first commercial flight by 2030. With the Microliner, we are addressing both the need for zero-emission travel alternatives and the demand for enhanced regional connectivity. Our partnerships and market-focused strategy reflect our commitment to not only decarbonising short-haul flights across Europe but also to setting a new standard for sustainable and energy efficient aviation at a competitive price point.

Milestone achievement: pre-application contract with EASA

Last month, VÆRIDION became the first General Aviation company to complete a Pre-Application Contract with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This achievement positions VÆRIDION ahead of competitors, putting the company on track to offer commercial flights by 2030.

Microliner prototype and technological advancements

The Microliner, a fixed-wing electric aircraft, will initially seat nine passengers and offer a range of 400 km. The aircraft features advanced battery-wing integration, multi-engine single propeller configuration, and low noise emissions, making it well-suited for smaller airfields and regional connectivity. Prototype flights are expected to begin in 2027.

Partnerships and strategic expansion

VÆRIDION has already signed its first customers in Denmark, Benelux, and Germany. The Microliner will initially serve business passengers, with plans to expand into consumer travel. The company has also opened a battery development facility in Munich and launched a subsidiary in the Netherlands to leverage the innovation ecosystem around TU Delft.

VÆRIDION’s vision for the future of regional aviation

Co-founder and CEO Ivor van Dartel stated that the new funding will accelerate the development of the Microliner and support the company’s mission to decarbonise short-haul flights while providing enhanced regional connectivity. The company’s partnerships and market-driven approach are aimed at setting new standards for sustainable aviation at a competitive price point.

Martijn de Blaey, Senior Investment Manager at InnovationQuarter, commented:

“By opening a subsidiary in Delft, VÆRIDION joins the Aerospace Delta, a hub of innovation and talent. TU Delft, with its top 3 globally ranked aerospace engineering faculty, provides expertise that complements their Munich headquarters. This strengthens their progress toward zero-emission aviation. Our investment highlights the region’s role in sustainable aviation and our belief in VÆRIDION as a key player to drive that change.

Support from key investors and industry experts

Investors such as Daria Saharova from World Fund, Uwe Horstmann from Project A Ventures, and Dr. Herbert Mangesius from Vsquared Ventures have praised VÆRIDION’s technology and vision for the future of aviation. The company’s strategic investments in electric aviation are seen as crucial to Europe’s technological independence and leadership in green aerospace innovation.

VÆRIDION: a key player in sustainable aviation

With its focus on electric aviation, VÆRIDION is helping to propel the aviation industry into a new era of sustainability. The company’s Microliner is designed to offer zero-emission regional flights that contribute to decarbonising air travel, meeting Europe’s growing demand for green transport solutions.
