TerugblIQ – InnovationQuarter 2017 Annual Report

In 2017, InnovationQuarter attracted a record number of foreign companies to West Holland, made 23 new investments and established over 50 innovative partnerships between companies. These annual results mean that the agency has had yet another record 12-month period in its fourth year of existence. This is evident from TerugblIQ, the 2017 Annual Report, which is published today. InnovationQuarter’s activities in 2017 led to € 146 million of additional private investment and the creation of more than 1,500 high-quality jobs in the region.

Dutch and Flemish Digital Health organisations on a mission to the UK

During a four-day mission to Scotland and England (11-14 March), a Dutch and Flemish delegation met with relevant care institutions, potential partners and regional National Health Services. This business and innovation trip with the theme 'Digital Health' was organised by OostNL, InnovationQuarter, POM West-Flanders and NHS Highland.

LeydenJar Technologies receives €1,5 million to develop their revolutionary battery technology

ECN spin-out LeydenJar Technologies received a capital injection of €1,5 million in total. This enables LeydenJar to further develop their innovation: a battery cell where the graphite anode is replaced with a 100% silicium anode. This improved Lithium Ion battery cell can store up to 50% more energy, revolutionizing further developments in wireless technology and electric driving.

Strong growth of foreign companies in West Holland

In 2017, some 115 foreign companies opened an office or expanded their business in West Holland. These firms are expected to create in excess of 2,300 new jobs and to invest more than half a billion euros in the region. Since 2014, The Hague Business Agency, Rotterdam Partners and InnovationQuarter have been actively collaborating to place the region in the global spotlight and to attract and support foreign companies. This has paid off: over 30% of international companies that set up business in the Netherlands last year chose West Holland, compared to 20% in 2014.

Engineering human tissues for drug discovery

InnovationQuarter participated in BIO-Europe Spring partnering meetings and promoted the Netherlands life Science cluster at the Health-Holland pavilion with the Invest in Holland network. As part of the BIO-Europe Spring, a side event at the Leiden Bio Science Park highlighted the innovative research of Engineering human tissues for drug discovery.

Unmanned Valley Valkenburg takes off

The activity in Unmanned Valley Valkenburg is mounting. More and more businesses, knowledge institutions and government agencies are joining forces to turn the former air base in Katwijk into a testing facility for unmanned systems. Over 20 projects have already started.

West Holland composite cluster & National Composite Agenda presented at JEC Paris

From March 12 to 14, the largest composite trade fair in the world, JEC World 2019, took place in Paris. At the Holland High Tech pavilion, organized in cooperation with trade association CompositesNL, Dutch companies and research institutes presented their latest material developments and newest processing technologies

West Holland in the picture at Mobile World Congress 2018

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) took place in Barcelona between February 26 and March 1. MWC is the largest congress in the world for the mobile and digital industry, where digital security has become an increasingly important factor. InnovationQuarter teamed up with The Hague Security Delta (HSD) to represent the larger Rotterdam-The Hague area at the Holland Pavilion.

Queen Máxima opens world’s first knowledge & innovation horticulture centre in Westland

On March 7th, her Majesty Queen Máxima has officially opened the World Horti Center in Naaldwijk. The worldwide knowledge & innovation center in the heart of Dutch greenhouse horticulture is the first of its kind in the world as a result of the cooperation between education, research, government and the business community. Minister of Agriculture, Nature & Food Quality, Carola Schouten, was also present at the official opening and spoke about how this underlines the leading international position of the horticulture sector.

Cisco 2018 Annual Cyber Security Report

Cisco released their 2018 Annual Cybersecurity Report: the Increasing Importance of Automation, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. The report reveals that 39% of organisations are reliant on automation, 34% are reliant on machine learning and 32% are highly reliant on artificial intelligence (AI) to defend against threats.

YES!Delft and UtrechtInc in Top 10 Global Business Incubators

Dutch business incubators were ranked again by UBI global for the top business incubators 2017/2018. YES!Delft ranked second, and UtrechtInc ranked tenth. This was announced on Thursday night in Toronto during the World Incubation Summit. The two Dutch incubators receive international recognition for their support of startups.

ParkBee closes €5M funding to open up private car parks to public bookings

ParkBee, a Netherlands-founded startup that lets private car parks monetize underutilized spaces by making them bookable to the public, has picked up €5 million in new funding.
