InnovationQuarter co-organized Chinese Family Day at CORPUS Leiden

On the 16th of September a ‘Chinese Family Day’ took place at CORPUS Leiden. The day was organized by InnovationQuarter, together with the Hague Business Agency (THBA), VCWI (Vereniging van Chinese Wetenschappers en Ingenieurs) and ACIEN (Association of Chinese Investment Enterprises in NL). More than 120 Chinese expats and their family participated in this event to experience a spectacular ‘journey through the human body’.

No more burning risks as robots take over hazardous inspections

They look, listen, smell and feel for you, so that you no longer risk burning your fingers. The robots from ExRobotics are specially developed to conduct inspection and maintenance in highly inflammable and explosive (Ex) environments, removing the risk to people. Early September, ExRobotics will start manufacturing these robots in Delft for NAM, their launching customer. A salient piece of information: There are only one or two other companies in The World that are certified to produce Ex robots. ExRobotics will produce more Ex robots in 2018 than the other companies combined.

Cyber Security Week: Together we Secure the Future

Between 2 and 5 October, The Hague is hosting the third edition of the international Cyber Security Week. At more than 50 events during the course of the week, hundreds of experts on Internet security and cybercrime from government, business and science will be sharing their knowledge, discussing the latest developments and pitching new innovative ideas. Together with around 4000 visitors, they will be looking for solutions to one of the biggest challenges in our modern, digital world: how do we ensure a safe cyber future?

Dutch delegation to India seals agreement on soft landing support in Karnataka for Dutch startups

To strengthen the economic ties with India, the Dutch National Government travelled to India on a trade mission, led by Prime Minister Rutte and joined by Ministers Kaag, Bruins, Schouten and Van Nieuwenhuizen. In addition, Mr. de Boer of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (known as VNO-NCW) and Mayor of The Hague, Mrs. Krikke joined the mission together with around 130 companies.

Smart Yields Selects The Hague for its European Headquarters

Honolulu agriculture technology company Smart Yields has selected The Hague as the location for its European operations. The announcement follows the company’s recent expansion into Asia through Hong Kong’s Cyberport Incubation Programme.

MOU on Shore Power Study Signed between Heerema Marine Contractors, Eneco and Port of Rotterdam

Heerema, Eneco and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly perform a feasibility study on the creation of shore power infrastructure in the Calandkanaal. The MOU represents a major step towards developing a Shore Power Connection in the Calandkanaal (SPCC) and to provide Heerema’s fleet with sustainable power inshore. The parties have created a consortium to explore the opportunities and are looking for marine partners who are willing to co-accelerate the energy transition.

Autonomous delivery vehicles on pavements and in the air: these two companies from Qatar chose Rotterdam to make their innovation happen

Recently these two companies joined forces in a new company: Geeba. Airlift and Geeba have both set up office in Rotterdam to further develop their innovation.

Webhelp expands to Rotterdam, attracted by local talent

Mayor Aboutaleb officially opened the Rotterdam branch of Webhelp. This originally French business process outsourcer has secured premises at Delftse Poort, right next to Rotterdam Central Station.

IMSystems receives growth capital for further development of revolutionary robotics technology

It’s a real revolution in robotics: Delft start-up IMSystems, a Delft University of Technology spin-off, has developed an alternative to gear drives. This new transmission system, the ‘Archimedes Drive’, transmits power with greater efficiency, in a more compact format and at a lower cost than traditional gear drives. Movements are performed with better precision and robots are stronger and easier to control. The drive will enable production robots to do 40% more work in the same amount of time and will pave the way for new applications, such as robot surgery. IMSystems is to receive an investment of €600,000 from InnovationQuarter and Lucros Investment. This will help the company take important steps in product development and bring the technology to market. The investment was announced on Thursday, 21 June by Delft Deputy Mayor Bas Vollebregt at YES!Delft’s ‘Meet the VCs’ event.

Access to Capital, a vibrant networking opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors

On 19 June, the fourth edition of the Access to Capital event took place on the HSD Campus. During this day, entrepreneurs from the Digital Health and Cybersecurity sector met. Also, 12 pitchers  in the categories Digital Health and Cybersecurity compteted for an award. Multiple keynote speakers discussed sector trends, personal experiences with entrepreneurship and their lessons learned. HSD presented its updated Finance Guide, which provides SMEs an overview of financing opportunities during different stages of growing a business.

Exasun to five-fold solar panel manufacturing in the Hague with new multi-million-euro investment

The Netherlands may be known for tulips and windmills, but if Michiel Mensink has his way, his startup Exasun will make the country known for its solar panels. Since Michiel and Jan Jaap van Os founded Exasun in 2012, they’ve developed solar panels that are at least twice as durable as traditional solar panels, generate more energy for less money, and that look better. And they’re made locally right here in The Hague. Now Exasun will be able to step up its production five-fold thanks to a multi-million-euro investment from ING Sustainable Investments and ENERGIIQ, a government energy innovation fund, supplemented by a loan from ABN AMRO.
