The fight against climate change and the green energy transition go hand in hand. The negative realities of climate change are forcing cities to implement short- and long-term solutions to become resilient. Buildings represent approximately 35% of the total energy consumed in the Netherlands, a number comparable to Sweden. Therefore, we need to quickly adopt energy saving solutions in the built environment, including (retrofitting) the existing building stock and energy infrastructure. In both the Dutch and Swedish innovation ecosystems we see a sharpened focus on topics, such as smart energy systems & management solutions, low-carbon buildings and materials, AI-driven applications, use of digital twins and smart grids. These (and many other) solutions will be key in reaching decarbonization- and overall climate-goals. But they are only as good as their impact in reality, which entirely depends on their large-scale adoption in our societies. Only by working together will we be able to achieve this!
